Japanese company asks 2700 staff to get same haircut
Tokyo, Japan (AHN) – Maeda Corp., a construction company in Japan, has asked all of its staff of 2,700 to get look-alike hair cuts. The men’s look is short in the back and sides, and longer on the top. The women’s look is a short bob with longer sweeping bangs.
The move is not meant to create a clone-like atmosphere, but to promote the environmental consciousness the firm aspires to portray. Company officials believe that people with short hair spend less time using hair dryers and thus save energy.
The haircuts are also more conducive to its work environment. The shorter styles are more comfortable and easier to maintain under hard hats, a spokesman for the company said.
Electricity in Japan has been under strain since many of its nuclear sites closed for safety checks following the massive 9.0 earthquake that ravaged the country on March 11 and caused a near-nuclear meltdown at the Fukushima nuclear plant.
